Cocoa Skyr Oat Breakfast Squares with Strawberries
Small cocoa skyr oat squares offer a breakfast-style snack with fresh strawberries on the side. #BreakfastSquares #ProteinSnacks #SkyrBreakfast #OatBake
Small breakfast squares are useful when you want a snack-sized portion of something baked rather than a full bowl or sandwich. These cocoa squares combine plain skyr, eggs, and oats, with strawberries served beside them. They are deliberately closer to baked oatmeal than to a brownie: soft, lightly tangy, and modestly sweet from mashed banana. Cocoa supplies flavor and color without requiring a chocolate coating.
For a small batch, use one cup of plain skyr, two eggs, one cup of rolled oats, one ripe medium banana, two tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, one half teaspoon of baking powder, and one teaspoon of oil for the pan. Set aside fresh strawberries for serving. Mash the banana until mostly smooth so its sweetness spreads through the mixture. A very firm banana will be harder to mash and will taste less sweet in the finished squares.
Heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly oil an eight-inch square baking pan, or line it with suitable baking parchment. Whisk the skyr, eggs, mashed banana, and cocoa until there are no dry cocoa pockets. Stir in the oats and baking powder, then leave the mixture for about ten minutes. This brief rest lets the flakes take up some moisture and makes the batter easier to spread evenly.
Transfer the mixture to the pan and smooth the surface without pressing it hard. Bake until the center is fully set and the edges begin to pull slightly away from the pan, starting to check around twenty-five minutes. Ovens and pan materials differ, so do not rely on the clock alone. The center of this egg-based bake should reach 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Let the bake cool enough to hold together before cutting it into nine small squares.
Serve a couple of squares with washed, hulled strawberries, adjusting the amount to the role of the meal. A small serving can be a breakfast-style snack; a larger plate may need additional food according to appetite. Skyr and eggs contribute protein, while oats provide a grain component. No precise protein or calorie number is assigned because products and portion sizes vary. The squares are not intended as a promise of fullness or weight change.
Expect a moist interior rather than a crisp cookie texture. If you cut the bake while very hot, the edges may crumble even though it is cooked. Allowing it to settle is usually more helpful than adding extra baking time, which can dry the outside. Plain thick Greek yogurt can replace skyr, though a thinner product may change the texture. Keep the cocoa unsweetened if you want to follow this ingredient balance.
Cool leftovers promptly and refrigerate them in a covered container. Pack strawberries separately so their juice does not soak the squares. Reheat a portion until hot throughout, or serve chilled if you like a firmer texture. Label the container with the preparation date and use it while the ingredients remain within safe storage guidance. This recipe works best as a small, practical bake that can be portioned easily rather than a dessert disguised by an unsupported health claim.
