Kiwi Spinach Yogurt Smoothie for Everyday Variety
Try a measured kiwi and spinach smoothie with plain yogurt, a little banana, and water, plus simple ways to adjust tartness and texture.
Adding variety to everyday food can be as simple as trying a different fruit combination. This kiwi spinach yogurt smoothie brings together tart kiwi, mild leafy greens, a small amount of banana, and plain yogurt. It is an option for a snack or a drink alongside breakfast, rather than a rule about what anyone must eat. Enjoying the flavor matters more than making the green color as intense as possible.
For one serving, gather one peeled ripe kiwi, one quarter cup sliced banana, one quarter cup loosely packed baby spinach, one half cup plain unsweetened yogurt, and one quarter cup cold water. These measured amounts provide a clear starting point. Use fresh ingredients in good condition, wash the spinach, and rinse the kiwi before peeling it. Remove any tough stem from the leaves and cut the fruit into small pieces.
Pour the water into the blender, followed by yogurt, spinach, banana, and kiwi. Blend until the leaves have broken down and the mixture is evenly green. Stop the machine and check the texture with a clean spoon. If the drink is too thick for your glass, add another tablespoon of water and blend again. A few kiwi seeds are expected and give the smoothie its characteristic speckled appearance.
Taste before deciding whether to change anything. A firm, less ripe kiwi can make the drink sharper than a soft ripe one. You can add a little more banana to soften that tartness, but measure the addition so you know how you changed the recipe. Another option is to use only half the kiwi at first, then add the remainder if the flavor suits you. There is no need to add several sweeteners simply because the first sip is tangy.
For variety on another day, exchange the spinach for the same loose amount of tender baby kale with its tough stems removed. The flavor may be stronger, so begin with fewer leaves if you are unsure. An unsweetened dairy alternative can replace yogurt, although thickness, protein, and other nutritional values will vary by product. Check labels when those differences matter to your own meal planning.
Serve soon after blending. Kiwi and yogurt can change in flavor and texture as they sit, so this is a good recipe to prepare when you are ready to drink it. If you need to do something ahead, measure the washed fruit and greens separately and keep them chilled, leaving the yogurt in its container until blending time. Refrigerate leftover smoothie promptly rather than leaving it beside your blender.
A smoothie does not need to contain every nutritious ingredient in the kitchen. This short list makes the recipe easier to repeat, adjust, and enjoy within a varied eating pattern. A wellness supplement displayed elsewhere on this page is separate from the food recipe and does not provide its flavor or justify health claims about the drink.
