Plum Vanilla Kefir Smoothie with Rolled Oats
Blend ripe plums, plain kefir, softened oats, and vanilla into a gently tart smoothie with a clear method for adjusting thickness.
Plums offer a pleasant change from the berries and bananas often used in smoothies. Their flavor can range from mellow to sharply tart, which makes ripeness especially important in this recipe. Plain kefir, a small amount of rolled oats, and vanilla create a creamy base while allowing the plum to remain recognizable. The finished drink may look pale pink or mauve depending on the fruit variety and how much skin is included.
For one serving, measure one half cup chopped pitted ripe plums, three quarters cup plain unsweetened kefir, one tablespoon rolled oats, two tablespoons cold water, and one eighth teaspoon vanilla extract. Wash the plums before cutting them and remove every pit. Keep the edible skin if you enjoy its texture and your blender handles it well, or peel the fruit for a smoother result.
Combine the oats with kefir in a covered container and refrigerate for about ten minutes to soften. Transfer that mixture to the blender with the measured water. Add the prepared plum and vanilla, secure the lid, and blend until the fruit pieces are broken down. Stop the blender before checking the texture. If small flecks of plum skin remain, they are expected; a smooth drink does not necessarily mean a completely uniform color.
Add an extra tablespoon of cold water if the oats have made the mixture thicker than you like. Avoid adding a large splash at once, because it can make the drink watery before you realize it. If the mixture is already thin, leave it as it is rather than adding more ingredients solely to make it look like a thick smoothie photograph. The recipe should work for the way you prefer to drink it.
Taste before adding any sweetener. A very tart plum may be better balanced by replacing part of the measured fruit with a little ripe pear on another batch. You can also choose a riper plum next time. Vanilla adds aroma but does not remove sourness, so increasing it repeatedly is unlikely to solve a tartness problem. Make one measured adjustment and taste again.
Serve the smoothie as a snack or alongside breakfast food that fits your appetite. It does not have a guaranteed nutrient total or a fixed role in everyone’s eating pattern. If you prefer a smaller amount, divide the recipe into two glasses. Keep any optional toppings modest and remember that they change the ingredients you are actually consuming.
Drink soon after blending because the oats continue absorbing liquid. If you save any portion, refrigerate it promptly in a covered container and stir or reblend before serving. Keep prepared fruit and kefir chilled until use. A wellness supplement displayed separately on this page is not part of the recipe and is not credited with any smoothie flavor, nutrition, or health effect.
