Red Grape Almond Yogurt Smoothie with a Hint of Lemon
Seedless red grapes, plain yogurt, and almond butter blend into a soft purple smoothie with lemon zest for a bright finish.
Seedless red grapes are easy to overlook when choosing smoothie fruit. Their skins bring a soft purple color, while plain yogurt and almond butter give this drink a creamy base. A little lemon zest adds aroma without turning it into a sharp citrus drink. The combination is inspired by a Mediterranean-style use of fruit, nuts, and dairy, presented here as a modern smoothie rather than a traditional regional recipe.
Make one glass with 1/2 cup seedless red grapes, 1/2 cup plain yogurt, 1/4 cup cold water, 2 teaspoons smooth almond butter, and 1/8 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest. Wash the grapes, remove every stem, and cut a few open to check for unexpected seeds. Wash the lemon before zesting and use only the colored peel. Stir separated almond butter before measuring so the oil and solids are evenly mixed.
The grapes need a little attention before the creamy ingredients go in. Blend them with the water first, then inspect for large pieces of skin. Stop the motor before scraping the sides. Add yogurt, almond butter, and lemon zest, secure the lid, and blend again until the color looks even. Fine skin flecks are expected. A smoothie made from whole grapes will not have the completely clear texture of grape juice, and that is part of this recipe.
If the mixture is too thick, loosen it with a tablespoon of water. If it is thin, serve it that way rather than repeatedly adding almond butter. Grapes are juicy, so a pourable result is normal. For a colder texture, use chilled grapes and yogurt. You can freeze the washed, dry grapes in a single layer before storing them, but follow your blender instructions and soften them in the refrigerator if they are too firm for the appliance.
Taste before adding anything sweet. The grapes may provide plenty of sweetness, and their flavor changes with variety and ripeness. Lemon zest should stay in the background rather than dominating. If the almond flavor is stronger than you like, reduce that amount in the next batch and note the change. This makes the recipe easier to repeat than adjusting several ingredients at once.
Serve as an optional snack or alongside a meal, with the portion that suits you. It can be a useful way to finish a small bunch of grapes, but there is no need to blend fruit that you would rather eat whole. Keep yogurt refrigerated, blend close to serving, and cover and refrigerate any saved portion. Stir before drinking if it separates. Almonds and dairy are included, so select suitable alternatives when needed and expect a different result. No single smoothie defines a Mediterranean-style diet or guarantees a health outcome.
