After Cleanup: Back Leg Lifts and Heel Raises
Use a fixed counter for two small supported movements after meal preparation and cleanup are finished.
Once meal preparation is finished, a clean counter can become a support for a small exercise practice. This pair uses back leg lifts and heel raises, with no weights and no floor work. It is optional movement after the kitchen tasks are complete, not something to do while handling food or watching a hot pan. Keep the session short enough that every repetition stays controlled.
Put food away appropriately, turn cooking equipment off, and finish cleanup first. Check that the floor is dry and that no rug edge, bag, or pet blocks your feet. Use a fixed counter that will not move when you hold it. Secure shoes are preferable to slippery socks. Warm up with several minutes of easy walking and relaxed steps before approaching the counter.
Start the back leg lift with both hands on the counter and your feet about hip width apart. Stand upright, keeping the supporting knee soft. Move one leg a short distance behind you with the knee comfortably straight, then return the foot slowly beside the other. Try three repetitions on that side and then change legs. A small lift is enough; the movement should not pull your torso forward.
Keep your hips facing the counter and avoid arching your lower back to raise the foot higher. Think about moving the leg only as far as your trunk can stay quiet. For an easier version, slide your toes a little backward along the floor and return instead of lifting the foot. Reduce the range or stop if the movement causes discomfort. This is not a balance test, so keep both hands on the support.
Rest for sixty to ninety seconds, taking longer if needed. For heel raises, place both feet flat and keep your hands on the counter. Slowly raise both heels a small distance while the fronts of your feet stay on the floor. Lower smoothly until both heels are down. Repeat up to five times. Avoid bouncing, leaning far forward, or rolling the ankles outward.
A lower rise or only two repetitions makes an appropriate easier version. If you cannot keep control even with support, skip the standing movement and seek suitable guidance. One round of the pair is enough for this introduction. Finish with a little easy walking or a comfortable seated pause. On another day, repeat the same amount before considering one extra repetition; there is no need to increase both exercises together.
Do not exercise simply because the counter is available if meal prep has left you exhausted. Stop for pain, dizziness, unusual breathlessness, or feeling unwell. Chest pain or severe symptoms need urgent attention. Ask a qualified professional about alternatives when injury, balance difficulties, recent surgery, or a health condition affects activity. A safe space, small range, and unhurried lowering are the priorities of this practice.
