Papaya Greek Yogurt Breakfast Smoothie with Lime
Ripe papaya and plain Greek yogurt blend into a creamy breakfast smoothie with a little lime. #ProteinSmoothies #BreakfastIdeas #Papaya #HealthyRecipes
Ripe papaya brings a mellow flavor and soft texture to this breakfast smoothie, while plain Greek yogurt provides a creamy base and food-based protein. A little lime sharpens the fruit without turning the drink into a sour blend. Serve it in a glass alongside toast or another breakfast food if that suits your appetite. A smoothie can be one part of breakfast; there is no need to assume that a drink alone will meet everyone's needs.
For one generous glass, start with 1 cup peeled, seeded papaya cubes, three-quarters cup plain Greek yogurt, and about one-quarter cup milk or water. Add 1 teaspoon lime juice to begin. A few ice cubes are optional if the fruit is not chilled. Choose ripe papaya that gives slightly when pressed, and taste a piece before blending. Fruit that is firm and unripe will create a very different flavor and texture.
Wash the outside of the papaya before cutting it. Halve it, scoop out the seeds, and remove the peel. Measure the prepared cubes rather than the whole fruit, since papayas vary considerably in size. Put the liquid and yogurt into the blender first, followed by the fruit and lime juice. Secure the lid and blend until the mixture looks even, stopping to scrape the sides only after the blades have stopped.
Check the consistency before adding more ingredients. For a drink that pours easily, blend in another tablespoon or two of liquid. For a thicker texture, use chilled or frozen papaya instead of adding a large amount of ice, which can dilute the flavor as it melts. Taste again and add a little more lime only if needed. Vanilla is an optional flavor change, but the ripe fruit is the main flavor here.
Greek yogurt brands differ in texture and composition, so the same recipe may need a different amount of liquid next time. If you track protein for a particular reason, use the label on your actual yogurt and the amount you put in the blender. This recipe does not promise a fixed protein total or a particular fitness result. A plain strained yogurt substitute can change both the taste and the nutrition, so check its label rather than assuming it is equivalent.
Pour the smoothie into a glass and put any accompanying food on a plate. Wholegrain toast provides a contrasting texture, while an egg or other familiar breakfast item may fit a hungrier morning. Adjust the meal according to preference and how long it will be until your next eating opportunity. Papaya, yogurt, and lime do not require a supplement, and none is part of this recipe.
For easier preparation, freeze peeled papaya cubes in small portions and keep the yogurt refrigerated until blending. Freshly blended texture is best. If you save some for later, transfer it promptly to a clean covered container in the refrigerator and stir before drinking, as separation is normal. Clean the blender after use so that the next breakfast starts with a ready container and no dried yogurt around the blades.
Ripe papaya, plain Greek yogurt, and a squeeze of lime make a creamy breakfast blend.
