A Pilates session for women does not need to center on shrinking a particular body part. This short arm practice emphasizes a supported setup and an easy range of motion. Both feet remain on the mat, so there is no need to coordinate lifted legs at the same time. It is a general beginner option for adults who are comfortable lying on their backs and moving their arms without symptoms.
Choose a nonslip mat with enough room behind your head and beside your shoulders. Lie down using a comfortable, familiar transition. Bend your knees and place your feet roughly hip width apart. Let your head rest without tipping the chin sharply upward. Your lower back can keep its natural comfortable curve; do not force it flat or arch it deliberately to create a particular shape.
Rest your arms beside you and take three ordinary breaths. Notice the ribs widen gently as you breathe in and settle as you breathe out. Avoid sucking in the abdomen as hard as possible. The goal is a position you can maintain while breathing, not a rigid brace. If this setup is uncomfortable, a seated breathing pause is a reasonable alternative to the floor practice.
Raise both arms toward the ceiling, with hands above the shoulders and elbows softly extended. Keep one arm there while the other makes a small arc toward the space behind your head. Stop well before the ribs lift or your neck feels tense. Bring the moving arm back over its shoulder. The hand does not need to reach the floor, and the elbow need not lock.
Repeat on the other side, completing four small arcs per arm. Try breathing out during the outward arc and in during the return, without forcing the timing. Rest both arms down whenever you need a break. You can make the task easier by bending the moving elbow, shortening the arc, or practicing one repetition before resting. Keep both feet supported throughout rather than adding a leg challenge.
Finish with your arms beside you and a few comfortable breaths. Roll onto your side before getting up in your usual way. Stop for pain, dizziness, unusual breathlessness, or other concerning symptoms. If you are pregnant, recently postpartum, recovering from surgery, or managing a condition that affects exercise, ask an appropriate professional about suitable positions and activity rather than treating this general post as a tailored program.
Judge the practice by whether the movement stayed comfortable and understandable. More range is not automatically better, and a smaller movement can be the right choice today. This exercise cannot selectively remove arm or abdominal fat. Keep it within a broader routine that fits your needs, meals, rest, and other movement. You can return to the same simple version without adding repetitions or equipment until it feels familiar.
Begin with feet supported and choose a small comfortable arm range.
