Boiled Beet Nutrition Facts for Consistent Food Notes
Record cooked beets with their preparation and serving weight so plain vegetables and pickled products do not get mixed together.
A helpful food note includes preparation as well as the ingredient name. Beets can be raw, boiled, roasted, pickled, or mixed into a dressed salad, and those forms should not automatically share one nutrition entry. This card uses plain boiled and drained beets. It makes a repeatable portion visible without presenting the vegetable as a shortcut or a special marker of progress.
A half cup of boiled beet slices, weighing 85 grams, provides approximately 37 calories, 8.5 grams of total carbohydrate, and 1.7 grams of fiber. The figures are rounded from the USDA reference. They describe the cooked vegetable alone. Total carbohydrate includes fiber, so the two amounts should not be added together when reading the card or recording the portion.
The source is USDA FoodData Central food 169146, “Beets, cooked, boiled, drained.” Per 100 grams, it lists 44 calories, 9.96 grams of carbohydrate, and 2 grams of dietary fiber. USDA gives a half cup of slices as 85 grams. Multiplying each reference value by 0.85 produces the illustrated serving. Source: https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/food-details/169146/nutrients
Measure the edible cooked slices after draining. A raw beet weight is a different preparation state, and liquid surrounding the slices should not be mistaken for more vegetable. A scale is useful when slices have different thicknesses or are packed into a cup differently. Reset the scale with an empty dish first, then add the portion you plan to eat.
For a salad, keep the beet amount separate from dressing, cheese, nuts, and other ingredients. If everything is mixed in a shared bowl, record the full recipe and divide it according to the portions served. The plain beet values do not automatically cover a finished salad, even when the beets supply most of its color or occupy most of the visible space.
Pickled beets deserve their own label check. Added ingredients and packing liquid can make a prepared product different from this plain boiled entry. Read the serving description to see what the label includes. The same principle applies to beet juice, spreads, and other products: a shared main ingredient does not mean the food form and portion can be ignored when choosing a reference.
A consistent description can make a food journal easier to review over time. Writing “boiled, drained, 85 grams” is more informative than a vague bowl size, but it is still a reference rather than a demand for perfect tracking. This card does not predict weight change or assign a health outcome to eating beets. The related wellness supplement is a separate catalog recommendation and is not part of the vegetable serving or its nutrition calculation.
